As you might imagine, there’s been quite a backlash against the NFL for its stand on the AmVet ad (similar print ads were accepted by the NBA and the NHL). We spoke to the commander of American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo, retired Lt. Col. Altalink is expecting to finalize and submit applications for a substation near Saunders Lake and upgrades to the Cooking Lake substations transmission lines by this June as part of a wider project to beef up electrical transmission capacity in areas outside current City of Edmonton borders.Applications under that project will include a new substation and transmission lines at the north end of Saunders Lake near Leduc, as well as upgraded transmission lines along a new route to the Cooking Lake substation northeast of Leduc County.intent would to file these prior to the end of spring 2015, so before the end of June, for both projects, said Peter Brodsky, Altalink manager of external communications. The projects have been in the works since 2012 and a Needs Identification Document (NID) was approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) in 2014, acknowledging the need for electrical grid upgrades and additions to the south and west of Edmonton. The new 138 kV lines to the Cooking Lake substation will follow one of two proposed routes. The preferred route follows Highway 14 north of Leduc County. The alternate route would run east of Beaumont along Highway 625. Leduc County Mayor John Whaley said the county has spoken in favour of the first route.14 is a [utility corridor] which was set aside with enough room to put utilities on either side of the road, Whaley said, adding Highway 625 is likely to be twinned in the near future. This would necessitate moving the lines along with the road, and that Highway 14 has fewer residences along the route, with none built along the fence line.that is where the power line should go.
